CS-5000-72xx

Our best selling product, the CS-5000-72xx is the industry standard in non-contacting loop controls. And it’s not hard to see why. With an outstanding list of features and unrivaled ability for customization, not to mention a full line of useful accessories and free lifetime over-the-phone customer support, the CS-5000 series of no-touch loop controls is the gold standard.

Each CS-5000 is a custom build, with customers first choosing their stand height (15″, 54″, 72″, or 84″), with our 72″ stands being the most popular (hence the 72 in the part number mentioned earlier in this post). Customers then choose a boom length, which replaces the xx in the part number. With a wide range of boom lengths between 11″ and 48″, customers can order exactly what they need.

The new CS-5000 series of non-contacting loop controls contains our state-of-the-art new CB-5501M main control board. This new board has all the features of the previous generation CB-5101M board, such as on-board storage for up to 8 preset programs and remote access to 3 presets, plus virtually instantaneous push-button calibration that lets you set your unit up in seconds, USB compatibility for remote set-up, and a program-locking jumper. Best of all, the new board is completely backwards compatible, making it easy and affordable to update your current system by simply buying a replacement board.

CS-5000-54XX

The standard Coiltek loop control model, the CS-5000, comes in three different stand heights. Last time I discussed the benefits of the CS-5000-15XX, which comes with a 15″ tall stand and a customer-dictated boom length (represented by the XX in the name). This time, we will talk about the next size up, the CS-5000-54XX.

The CS-5000-54XX, as the name suggests, features a 54″ tall stand and a variable boom length, which is dictated by customer need. If, for instance, you need to position your loop control further away from the line or have wide stock, choose a longer boom. If you want your stand closer to your line, choose a shorter boom. When ordering a stand, the XX in the part number can be replaced by the chosen boom length. You can choose between many boom lengths, from 11″ to 48″. The most popular combination boom length for the 54″ tall stand is the 11″ boom, otherwise known as a CS-5000-5411.

The CS-5000-54XX can be used over pits, if necessary, and with a variety of different materials, from steel to plastic tubing. This reliable, adaptable system can also be used with a world of accessories to enhance its performance, such as the CTAC-2 sound isolation cone, the Hammerhead multiple transducer assembly, and the 3CPO, which grants remote access to 3 preset programs.

The CS-5100 Line of Ultrasonic Loop Controls

Here at Coiltek we sometimes joke that the CS-5100 line of loop controls are the Jan Brady of our loop control family. The tall, industry standard CS-5000 series is the Marsha, getting lots of attention for its adaptability and capable, reliable handling of lines big and small. The CS-6200 is the baby of the family, a small, affordable line that is perfect for many applications, such as plastic medical tubing, and representing a large step up for those looking to replace an existing Sonatrol unit.

Then there’s our CS-5100 series. It’s the proverbial middle child. It’s smaller than the CS-5000, because it lacks a stand, but it’s just as powerful, since it features the same new and updated CB-5501M control board. However, like the CS-6200 it is small, consisting of just an 11″ tubular housing (the nose or boom) containing the sensor, a 15′ long cable, and an electrical enclosure containing the powerful new CB-5501M control board.

The best of both worlds, the CS-5100 is as powerful as it is portable, and while you may not move it much within your shop, it’s small size is a boon when it comes to shipping costs. Likewise, all the accessories for our loop controls, from the Hammerhead, to the Cone of Silence, to the 3CPO are all compatible with these small but mighty units.

This series also has some very special add-ons for wide stock applications, which we will look at tomorrow. In the meantime, if you would like more information on our CS-5100 series of sonic loop controls, please visit our website, check out our brochures, and contact us.

“Free Loop” Controls

At Coiltek our loop controls are designed as no-touch controls for free loops. A free loop is an unfettered drop off of coil stock – slack in the line – before it enters into a process or is rewound.

The advantages of no-touch loop control systems are many, and have been discussed at some length in previous posts, but one of the major advantages is for use with non-conductive stock, such as extruded rubber or plastic medical tubing.

Our sensitive non-contacting, ultrasonic loop controls can be used on everything from wide stocks to very thin stocks. Coiltek loop controls can also be used with a variety of materials because, in addition to being very sensitive, our loop controls are adaptable.

For use with stocks that move either horizontally or vertically, we created the Hammerhead Accessory and the CS-5140 to ensure the stock is always within range. Additionally, each Coiltek loop control is essentially a custom build. We have several lines of loop controls, including a low-cost ultrasonic control, a stand-less line of loop controls, and our standard product line, the CS-5000. Each CS-5000 is fully customizable, as the customer chooses the height of the stand (either 15″, 54″, 72″, or 84″) and boom length (choose from 9 lengths between 11″ and 48″). This flexibility allows our loop controls to work with everything from tables to pits and everywhere in between. Since our no-touch ultrasonic loop controls rely on sound waves, not electrical contact or photo-technology, reflective stocks and non-metallic stocks are no problem.

A brief history of ultrasonic loop controls

In the late 1970s two men had the same great idea at the same time. One of those men was Hall Cary, the founder of Coil Technology, Inc.

As an acoustical engineer, Hall had already founded the Cary Corporation, which specialized in manufacturing sound isolating enclosures for press lines and other equipment. Well-versed in the physics of sound, he thought that perhaps sound waves could be harnessed for use in manufacturing processes.

The result of this line of inquiry was the original Coiltek ultrasonic loop control. Using an ultrasonic element to transmit and receive sound waves, the device could accurately gauge distance. By coupling this ability with the ability to create a variable 0-10 VDC output based on the distance of an object from the element, the ultrasonic loop control was born.

To learn more about why non-contacting or no-touch loop controls are such an important innovation and the advantages of a Coiltek loop control over the competition, feel free to contact us. For a full list of our current products, please visit our products page or check out our brochures.

Coiltek Loop Controls

Coiltek makes ultrasonic loop controls, which are sometimes known as sonic loop controls, sonar loop controls, and no-touch loop controls. Our founder invented the concept of using ultrasonic frequencies to sense and control the height of a loop during processes such as stamping, winding, rewinding, and extrusion and our loop controls have been the industry standard ever since.
